André Marcel Harris is a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) student and a Ronald E. McNair Scholar at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon completion of his BSW, Mr. Harris aspires to pursue a Master of Social Work/Master of Public Health (MSW/MPH) and a PhD in Social Work/Sociology. André’s professional goals include him working to influence health equity for Sickle Cell patients. Mr. Harris would like to one day be the Director of a Community Based Organization or a Nonprofit Organization that supports Sickle Cell Disease. André’s research interest focuses on the Barriers to Healthcare, Social Determinants of Health and the impact of socioeconomic issues on the overall healthcare of patients and how to eliminate the stigma patients face with Sickle Cell Disease. Mr. Harris is interested in the psychosocial factors that impact Sickle Cell Disease and the patients who suffer with it. Mr. Harris is member of the National Association of Black Social Workers, the National Association of Social Workers, the North American Association of Christians in Social Work, American Public Health Association and a member of the National Eagle Scout Association. Mr. Harris is a certified Community Health Worker, Sickle Cell Counselor/Educator and a Patient Advocate who collaborates with the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. (SCDAA). Mr. Harris has dedicated his life to working for the cause of Sickle Cell Disease recognizing the gap in research, funding, education and awareness of the most common genetic blood disorder in the United States.
